ABOUT THE BRAND
Toby Vernon first started experimenting with jewellery making during the first lockdown whilst in his home town Lewes in East Sussex. Learning about the ancient lost wax technique he quickly became obsessed with the raw and organic forms that could be carved from wax and turned into precious metal. Celebrating imperfections left by his own hands , he decided to leave pieces unpolished and raw. Showing evidence of the human hand overall the jewellers surface. Before this, Toby studied Fashion Design at Westminster University, developing a unique set of design references that now inform his work at The Ouze. His unconventional background in fashion design has allowed him to experiment with alternative jewellery-making processes and to develop The Ouze's distinctive signature style. During his final year of university, whilst making clothes the jewellery continued and became embedded in his work. Brooches, buttons and buckles in silver complimented each garment. After graduating, Toby decided to move to Brighton so he could focus on The Ouze and hasn't looked back since.
The aesthetic of The Ouze is rooted in Toby's interest in antique and heirloom jewellery that has been passed down through generations and weathered by time. Aiming to capture the same enduring beauty in everything The Ouze creates, Toby always refers to history and tradition when designing.

Joe Sturgis joined The Ouze in late 2022. Also a self taught jeweller, they share a unique background and have together developed a skillset that has moulded The Ouze into what you see today.
Everything is designed and crafted by Toby and Joe in the Brighton workshop. Them, along with their esteemed stockists distributed the jewellery across the world.
Sustainability
OUR Metal
We only use 100% recycled precious metal when casting. We collect off-cuts and defective samples of metals for future reuse, enabling us to minimise waste and promote ethical and eco-friendly practices that align with our commitment to sustainability. We work closely with our casters in London ensuring each piece is made to the highest standards.
LAB-GROWN
We proudly offer innovative, lab-grown gemstones, the perfect ethical and affordable alternative to mined stones. Lab-grown gems are physically, chemically, and optically identical but require fewer resources, less energy, and produce lower emissions, making them a beautiful choice that’s better for the planet.
NATURAL
We prioritise the ethical sourcing of our natural gemstones to minimise societal and environmental harm. Whether repurposed or sourced from trusted suppliers with traceable supply chains, our natural gemstones are conflict-free and responsibly mined so that you can wear your jewellery with pride.
